Attack of the Deurgar
3 Deurgar Groups
The next day, the group goes hunting Deurgar. Read the following: Great. Just great. After what you went through yesterday, this is all you want to do. Well, you weren’t left with much when you left for Sharn, and this will pay the bills. Plus, after what you saw from the Deurgar, this should be easy. I hope. After walking through the woods for some time, the group comes upon a Deurgar raiding group. Then read this: You hear some Deurgar talking. “Hurry up with the diluting of the poison, we want to stun them, not kill them. Get up there, if the disrupter isn’t there, this whole thing is pointless. All of you, get rid of all of your beard spikes, if we don’t, we won’t have any ammo.” “Shut up. We’re doing the best we can.” “Look, if we screw this up, the boss will kill us. All we have to do is raid the lightning rail. How hard could it be?” Your gonna have to make it hard. They fight four Deurgar, who are preparing to raid the lightning rail. There is also a stationary crossbow, a pot of poison, and a container full of beard spikes. The crossbow can be loaded with beard spikes. A thrown beard spike is a +2 1d8 weapon, whereas a crossbow attack is a +2 1d10 weapon. The poison does 1d10 damage plus 5 ongoing poison damage. After 10 rounds, the lightning rail car goes by and stops, as is frozen in time. At that point, one of the Deurgar starts firing the crossbow at the lightning rail. After the battle, the driver of the lightning rail jumps out of the car and tries to arrest the players, claiming that they tried to rob the lightning rail and for slaying some innocent dwarves. The players notice that he is wearing a ring on each finger, just like the Deurgar. If the players run, he won’t follow them into the woods, but will instead use a spell. The players notice him talking to a dwarf, and the dwarf seems angry. They don’t see anything after that. The party finds a recipe for the perfect poison, which costs 20 sp to make. After wandering about for a while, they come upon another Deurgar group. They are dressed in heavy clothes and moving hurriedly towards Sharn. The one in the back seems to be hiding something under his coat. There are four Deurgar there. Read the following: Another group shoves by you on their separate journey. They are dressed in heavy clothing, and the one behind seems to be hiding something. As they shove past, one of their faces is revealed. A Deurgar! What are these Deurgar hiding. Whatever it is, it won’t be hidden long! After these Deurgar are killed, one drops a note. It reads: _Dear Antun ir’Soldorn, I have decided to accept your offer. We will work under your command if it brings us wealth. We will further meet with you to discuss the terms of our job. Sincerely, Kundar the Great_ For the final encounter group, replace the warhammer attack of the Deurgar with Chopping Axe. Have them chopping wood in the forest, trying to clear land. Read the following: You hear the blunt plunking of axes on wood. “Of all the jobs there are, we got stuck with wood-chopping duty. I hate this job!” “Don’t yell so loud. The boss might hear you.” You peer into the clearing and see 5 Deurgars chopping down wood. Let’s see what they have on them! After the PCs defeat the Deurgar, they find a parcel with 32 to 40 bronze rings. Each one is worth 1 sp. They also have a map to a Deurgar camp.
